Web & App design

Crop Swap App

Objective/Challenge:
This project was an exercise in creating a solution to a societal problem. I chose to highlight an alternative way to source food. Rather than purchasing animal products from factory farms and produce from thousands of miles away, consumers and local growers could use Crop Swap to connect.

Solution:
Producers list their items for sale or trade. Consumers can search for what is available, and can make requests. Crop Swap and hobby farms could use the app to trade or swap their surplus for other items they do not produce. Residents of urban and suburban areas would benefit as well by having an alternative to what can be found at supermarkets.

Fiddle & Bow Website

Objective/Challenge:
I was presented with the opportunity to revamp the website of a Piedmont Triad, NC non-profit organization. I chose Fiddle and Bow Country Dancers, a contra dance community.

Solution:
Originally, I didn’t set out to redesign the logo, but as the site took shape, the new aesthetic proved to be in conflict with the original logo, which I felt could use a cleaner approach. I decided to create a wordmark in which the ampersand would carry some weight in a similar way to the original logo. This is partly because I love the lyrical lines of an ampersand, and partly because of its hint at inclusivity (“and”), a hallmark of contra dance.

I kept the structure of the site, the pages it contained, but I wanted to clean up the copy, make it it more concise, standardize the typefaces, weights and point sizes used, and use a friendly, vibrant and eye-catching color palette.

The new site is very bright, clean and approachable. The information on each page is to the point, and the imagery is representative of a happy, healthy contra dance community. Click here to visit the site.

Yesterday's Music Website

Objective/Challenge:
Yesterday’s Music is a locally owned music store in High Point, North Carolina. Their current website has not been updated for over 15 years. I was tasked with creating an updated website design. I chose to update the logo as well.

Solution:
My solution revolved around the use of consistent typography, an attractive color palette, and streamlined layout involving a single-page website with links to the store’s e-commerce page and their affiliate link to a site for instrument rentals.

The site has a warm and vibrant feel. Photography, typography, and a cohesive color palette provide visitors to the site important information in a clear and attractive presentation. Click here to visit the site.
